The Many Incarnations of the Mona Lisa - From Dali to Banksy

Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa is arguably the world's most famous and celebrated work of art and as such, it has been celebrated--and ridiculed--by world famous artists including Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Rene Magritte,Fernando Botero, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Banksy.

A reader who signed in as "Anonymous" left the links for the three awesome Banksy images in a comment. Furthermore, the clever and fun version of the Mona Lisa painted with peanut butter and jelly by Vik Muniz was a contribution from another (the same?) Anonymous. Thank you so much anonymous contributors! Check out the various renditions of the famous Gioconda below.

I'm having a hard time putting 2+2 together with the layout-- is there any adjustment on my end that I should be doing?

Great post! I've been remixing old masters paintings in my own style, and started with the mona lisa... (Mona Lisa after Leonardo da Vinci) It's great to see other examples.

Makes me curious what other remixes have of the pieces i've done. I've seen quite a few 'American Gothic' incarnations, and would love to see a similar thread on that subject if you're up for it.

cheers

Mordicai I'm using IE. Try Firefox and see what you get. I know IE can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Best.

Even I visited your blog and I loved it! And American Gothic sounds like a great idea! I have seen some really formidable versions out there and it is worth looking into. Thanks!

Anonymous thanks for Vik Muniz peanut butter and jelly version. I loved it and have posted it to the gallery. Thanks a lot.

Glad you liked it. I've only recently started creating them and haven't really shared it with many people yet, so I appreciate the feedback.

If you do end up doing the american gothic incarnations I'd be honoured to see my version included.
