Nothing Compares 2 U Swinging Naked from a Wrecking Ball: Miley Cyrus' and Sinead O'Connor's Videos Have Little in Common

  If you're into this sort of thing, you have probably already heard about the back- and-forth going on between the pope-picture shredding Irish singer Sinead O'Connor and look-at-me!-I'm-so-not-Hanna Montana-anymore actress/singer Miley Cyrus. Haven't heard? Well, here is a short but sweet synopsis: Sinead wrote Miley an open letter a couple of days ago urging the 20 year performer not to allow others to pimp and prostitute her. The letter, according to O'Connor, was borne out of her concern for the young pop star in view of the latter's recent release of her risque and sexually suggestive music video 'Wrecking Ball'. How did this unlikely pair come to be in the same conversation together you ask? Well, it seems like Miley was quoted as having said that she took inspiration for Wrecking Ball from Sinead's song and music video Nothing Compares 2 U.

Just for giggles, I put the two music videos together here and I can see some aesthetic similarities between them such as the closeups of the emotive faces shedding a tear from the right eye. Aside from that (and only sartorially speaking), well, Miley swings back and forth buck naked, monkey style from a wrecking ball while Sinead is dressed all in black from head to toe. In black. From head to toe.

How do you combat rape against women, a vomit-inducing scourge that has existed since the beginning of time, and the concomitant negative reactive attitudes that oftentimes blame the victims for their own victimization? That's a long-ass question. I know. Nevertheless, an Indian comedy collective group All India Bakchod or AIB, decided to use humongous doses of irony, sarcasm and even humor to broach this difficult subject in a 3 minute public service announcement video called "It's Your Fault". "Let's be honest, girls, rapes are our fault. Studies suggest that women who wear skirts are the main cause of rape. Do you know why? Because men have eyes", says actress Kalki Koechlin at the beginning of the PSA video.
