"The Third Eye" Enables User to Experience Virtual Space in 3-D

.
The Third Eye devise was conceived by Japanese designer Takehito Etani. The contraption, which goes on the head, offers the user a very different and unusual perception from outside his/her body. The devise consists of a one-eyed goggle with a 2-inch LCD monitor and a surveillance camera. Takehitoetani.com notes that, "The visual experience of “The Third Eye” is similar to that of a 3D video game in which the user controls and follows a given character from behind. The device turns the user into the character that he/she is controlling and real space is transformed into virtual space."

The video shows a person with the devise mounted on the head and looking a bit like the Borg from Star Trek, walking through Times Square in New York City. Interesting experience.

Improv Everywhere Celebrates Brooklyn Bridge with Wave of Lights

Improv Everywhere the improvisation troupe which has been staging pre-planned "missions" and pranks in public places since 2001, celebrated the 125th anniversary of New York City's beautiful and historic Brooklyn Bridge by posting 700 of its "agents" armed with cameras for a "Camera Flash Experiment". The cameras fired their flashes off simultaneously in the same direction thus creating a short-lived but really beautiful wave of light across the bridge.

Live Action (and Really Creepy) The Simpsons in Spanish

This is a really amusing live action version of The Simpson from a Spanish show called Cruz y Raya. The dialogue takes place in Spanish but even if you don't understand what they are saying (Marge is scolding Homer for watching too much TV), it is pretty funny and definitely very creepy!

Soccer Star Cesc Fàbregas Catches on Fire for Nike

This humorous Nike commercial features Cesc Fàbregas, star of the British soccer team Arsenal F.C., doing daredevil stunts to promote the Nike T90 shoes. Fitted with a special flame retardant suit, Fàbregas has a flaming soccer ball passed to him. Fàbregas stops the ball with his chest, as a good soccer star knows how to do, and immediately catches fire. However, he continues to dribble the ball thanks to his Nike T90 shoes which keep him cool under pressure. He keeps it up for a few seconds until he’s overcome by the flames and falls writhing to the ground.

The ad cautions not to try this at home or anywhere. That’s a shame cause I was planning to try it with the neighbor’s kid.

Kobe Jumps over a Pool of Snakes for Nike

Recently I published an article that had Los Angeles Lakers superstar shooting guard Kobe Bryant jumping over a moving Aston Martin car. This time around, Kobe, accompanied by members of the cast of the movie Jackass, repeats the stunt this time around jumping over a plastic pool full of black mamba snakes.

Rafael Nadal vs. Alien in Strange Kia Ad

Last year, Kia Motors signed tennis superstar Rafael Nadal to be the company's celebrity spokesperson in Europe. Titled "Nadal vs. Alien", the web-only video is part of Kia's new marketing campaign. The short video begins with a cartooned Nadal playing tennis against an alien who all of a sudden sprouts multiple arms and starts pummeling Rafael with tennis balls. Nadal eventually recovers, does a strange dance with a bunch of Nadal clones, changes into a transformer sort of superhero (Is it me or superheroes are in fashion?) and comes back to beat the crap out of the alien in a soccer face-off. What? Exactly my sentiments. At the end of the commercial, Nadal turns into a car and drives off. Strange commercial but sort of funny and entertaining.

Unusual Body Art - Dental Paintings

I published an article about dental tattoos not long ago. The dental designs in the gallery are made with very colorful paint and, to me, look more attractive than the tattooed kind of dental decoration. Having said that, I have to admit that I am not a big fan of that type of body art but I can admire the skill and the dexterity behind this work.

"Museum HR Giger Bar": An Establishment Inspired by the Bad-Ass Monster from the "Alien" Movies

Artist Han Rudi Giger (better known as H.R. Giger) who is recognized worldwide as one of the foremost artists of Fantastic Realism and who worked on the pop culture film series Alien, designed this bar in Gruyere, Switzerland and he used as points of reference and inspiration his horror-inspiring creation. The bar is decorated throughout with models of spinal chord-like skeletons and other such creepy motifs reminiscent of the otherworldly environments in the Alien movies. Giger designed the title character- the movie’s mean killing machine monster- and won an Oscar for best special effects in 1980.

As much as I liked the Alien movies, I would be hard pressed to eat at this joint and would especially stay away from the eggs!

Check out the rest of the pictures and the video after the jump.

Man Lives in a Human Nest Attached to a Skyscraper

Benjamin Verdonck is living in a giant nest hanging from a high-rise building in Rotterdam. The Belgian man says he will be there until May 22nd.

Judging by the images in the gallery, the nest looks like it was made out of twigs as well as more resistant and durable materials.

Benjamin built this temporary home on the side of the Weena Tower for a four-day project in which he will not leave the nest. From his perch up above the city, he’ll be able to watch people go about their daily lives below him as he envisions life as a bird, even going so far as to dress like one.

This isn’t the first time he’s done it. In July 2007, he constructed a similar nest on the side of an office building in Brussels were he lived for five days. At one point, he even tossed a giant egg down to the street below him. He called the installation “The Giant Swallow.” TrendHunter

Artist Paints with his Tongue

It is really remarkable when a person is able to produce art using their hands and fingers. When a person has the ability to paint with his tongue, that is simply amazing! Ani K is a teacher from India who decided to stray from the flock of artists who use more conventional methods of artistic expression: '“I always go for something different. So, first I tried to paint with nose, but noticed that few are already doing it. So, I thought of giving my tongue a try and succeeded. Many newspapers reported it. I got a good response. Then, I made it a regular practice,”'said Ani K.

I hope the stuff he uses to paint with is not too toxic.

New LEGO Indiana Jones Trailer - Verdict? Fantastic

Fans of the Indiana Jones LEGO game must be excited about the Indy games to be dropped shortly after the movie -Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull- whose theatrical release in the USA will take place on June 3rd. The first trailer of the LEGO game includes scenes from the first three Indiana Jones films: Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade. The second trailer was released at the beginning of the month and Indy's catchy tune is there, as well as plenty of cut scene footage showing off the many characters that will be in the game. We have included a few stills as well to enhance your Indy LEGO experience! More stills and videos after the jump

Daring and Unusual Architecture

Stumbled upon these marvelous images in a Russian language website during one of my frequent pilgrimages through the blogosphere. That is correct. I don't surf the blogo. I go on pilgrimages. Anywho, most, if not all, of the images, must be a product of Photoshop and similar graphic applications but I still love the strange but beautiful buildings!

A More Superior Version Of The Hulk

There have been rumblings of discontent in the blogosphere with the computer generated Hulk of The Incredible Hulk movie scheduled for theatrical release on June 13th. So perhaps in response, Swedish artist Jonas Thornqvist created this great version using a 3D graphics application called 3ds Max, a 3-D modeling technology known as Mental Ray, and Photoshop. The first two images are Thornqvist’s. The last two are the computer-generated movie version. Check out the latest trailer for the soon-to-be-released film. You be the judge.

Actors Break Out Singing And Dancing In Guerrilla Ad In Front Of Shocked Crowd

This is a guerrilla ad by a group of actors who surprised and shocked a group of people waiting at Stansted Airport in London with an impromptu musical performance a la Improv Everywhere. Its always fun for me to see people's reactions when they see the actors pop out of nowhere singing and some even tap dancing. There were 14 actors and 7 hidden cameras involved in this guerrilla ad to promote the website lastminute.com which is a London-based online travel site which also books theater tickets. A well-placed sign can be spotted at the end of the clever commercial asking the question, "When was the last time you went to the theatre"?

Doll Face-A Mesmerizing Short Film by Andy Huang

This is an absolutely fascinating film by 22 year old artist Andy Huang called Doll Face. The short film is about the constant struggle between self-love and that eternal quest for perfection and beauty. The animation and live action is totally mesmerizing!

"At only 22, artist and animator Andy Huang’s work has already been shown at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. Completed in 2005, “Doll Face” is the worthy recipient of several accolades, including being an Official Selection at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France and at the Electronic Theater at Siggraph 2006 in Boston. Watching the short, it’s not hard to see why it’s received so much love."

Robot Leads The Detroit Symphony Orchestra

A robot conducted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on May 13th. The Asimo robot built by Honda successfully led accomplished cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the rest of the orchestra in a performance of The Impossible Dream from Man of la Mancha and the performance went without a hitch. I must say that even though I have this thing about real life robots, the Asimo looked cool in a weird sort of way swinging those robotic arms up and down!

John Körmeling's Rotating House

John Körmeling’s house, which looks like a real house and is located in the municipality of Tilburg in the Netherlands, will rotate completely around once within a span of 20 hours. The structure, which is presently under construction, will be a full scale model measuring about 16 feet wide, 28 feet deep and 33 feet wide. The house will stand as sort of a rotating work of art. The structure will not be fit for human habitation; it consists of a steel construction covered with red brick strips and tiles. The rotating house will be powered by solar panels.

Impossible Street Performances - Johan Lorbeer Hangs in Mid Air

Johan Lorbeer is a German street performer and what he does is hang several feet in mid air in seemingly impossible positions. The YouTube video and the stills show Lorbeer doing a performance he calls "Tarzan". In the video we can see Lorbeer casually hanging in mid air several feet above the ground and leaning his left arm stiffly against a building or wall and the other arm is resting on his hip. The man has a fairly big crowd below watching in apparent amazement and taking pictures and I was sure this was a publicity stunt but it is not. It is a fairly simple trick but Lorbeer does a great job of capturing people's imaginations and curiosity.

Untooning Stewie, Peter Griffin, Marge Simpson, Betty Boop, Dumbo and More- Cartoons Made To Look Alive!

Obviously there is a rash of untooning going on in the blogosphere these days and lucky for us all, a whole bunch of very talented people went and untooned every cartoon there is and has ever been! Or so it seems. Some of my very favorite cartoon characters have been humanized and others have been made to look “alive”. Three of my favorite toon characters: hilarious Little Stewie and Peter Griffin from Family Guy and have been beautifully remade or humanized and so has Marge Simpson from The Simpsons. Betty Boop and The Little Mermaid were also skillfully Photoshopped as were a number of other cartoons but we don’t have enough space for the rest.

This is a collaborative effort by many talented people and the end result is pretty impressive. I will never look at Stewie the same way.

Amazing 3-D Paper Sculptures

Bert Simons is a Rotterdam-based artist who does graphic, product interior, furniture and website design. He also makes incredible 3-D paper portraits some of which are photo-realistic as you can be seen from the 4th image in the gallery. I really love the other female human figures and the camouflaged green head among the greenery.

This work is simply amazing!

The Da Vinci Tower - A Shape-Shifting, Energy-Sufficient Building in Dubai

The Da Vinci Tower (also known as Dynamic Architecture Building) is a proposed 68-floor tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tower is expected to be architecturally innovative for several reasons. Uniquely, each floor will be able to rotate independently. This will result in a constantly changing shape of the tower. Each floor will rotate a maximum of one full rotation in 90 minutes. The entire tower will be powered from turbines and solar panels, and five other buildings in the vicinity will also be provided with electricity. The turbines will be located between each of the rotating floors. They will generate 1,200,000 kilowatt-hours of energy from the movement of the floors, and the solar panels will be located on the roof. Construction of the Da Vinci Tower is expected to be completed in 2009. The video is a bit long (about 7 minutes) but really interesting and engaging.

MTV Anti-AIDS Public Service Ad - "Shot"

This is an MTV Public Service ad against the spread of AIDS/HIV among young women. The ad which is called Shot, came out a couple of months ago and it is very strong but right on the money. I don't like to watch this "bring me down" stuff but it is not a matter of what I like or don't like. Unfortunately the son-of-a-bitch disease is not gonna go away whether I ignore it is out there or not.

Pablo Picasso's Masterpiece "Guernica" in 3-D

To see Pablo Picasso’s Guernica in 3-D is a rare treat. The Guernica is perhaps Pablo Picasso’s most famous painting. The work of art depicts the Nazi German Luftwaffe bombing of Guernica, Spain on April 26 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. Picasso, who was very affected by the bombing which killed several hundred people, painted Guernica at the behest of the Spanish government which commissioned him to paint a large mural for the Paris International Exposition in 1937. On completion, Guernica was displayed around the world becoming famous and widely acclaimed. This tour brought the Spanish civil war to the world’s attention. The Guernica epitomizes the tragedies of war and the suffering armed conflicts inflict upon individuals. This monumental work has, through the years, become a perpetual embodiment of peace and a desperate cry against war.

Living Skin Building Facade

The FLARE is a building facade that allows the building exterior to "express" itself and interact with its environment therefore acting as a sort of a living skin. The system consists of a series of tiltable metal flakes supplemented by pneumatic cylinders that can be controlled individually. Each computer-controlled metal flake reflects sunlight and when it is tilted downwards, its face is shaded from the light making it appear as a dark pixel formed by natural light.

This is really revolutionary. The video is really amazing.

Fascinating Walk on Water Museum Exhibit Video

The Science Museum in South Kensington London has an interactive Living Image exhibit called The Arcstream AV. This fascinating installation replicates the impossible feat of walking on water using an overhead projector with sensors which projects the 1024 x 768 image of water on the floor and also interacts with the visitors.
