The Top Ten Banned Super Bowl Commercials!

One of the most attractive features of the Super Bowl are the commercials and many people who could care less about this American pastime tune in with a few of their friends for Super Bowl parties and hangouts where the game is sometimes upstaged by the clever, ingenious commercials. Big companies folk over millions of dollars for a few seconds of airtime and the opportunity to put their products in front of hundreds of millions of people who will watch this game worldwide. Super Bowl XLII will be played in Arizona on February the 3rd between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots and after the event, many of us will turn into Monday Morning Quarterbacks and second guess every bad decision or play made to death. We will also be talking about the commercials and and the ones we liked the best. Here are a few commercials of past Super Bowls that did not make it and got banned by the station carrying the game because they were deemed to be too racy and raunchy. Some of these commercials are really funny!

Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi: Born October 2, 1869. Died January 30, 1948

Mohandas "Mahatma" (Great Soul) Gandhi is widely respected and revered as the father of non-violent political resistance. Gandhi was born in India and studied law in England, then spent 20 years defending the rights of immigrants in South Africa. He returned to India and became a leading figure against the struggle for independence against the British Colonial Empire of which India was considered the so-called Shining Jewel. Gandhi urged non-violence and civil disobedience as a means to independence. His public acts of defiance landed him in jail many times as the struggle continued through World War II. In 1947 he participated in the postwar negotiations with Britain that led to Indian independence. He was shot to death by a Hindu fanatic on January 30, 1948.

Cell Phone Directory Rings Alarm Bells. Customers, Privacy Activists Raise Doubts About Web Service

An online directory that claims to provide 90 million mobile telephone numbers is raising concerns among cell phone users and privacy advocates about unwanted callers who rack up the minutes on their calling plans and the difficulty of opting out of the list.

Until now, cell phone users, reluctant to be interrupted in their cars or in public with unsolicited calls, could try to protect the privacy of their numbers by being judicious about whom they gave them to. But the directory service, offered by Intelius Inc. of Bellevue, Wash., threatens to take away that privacy.

Intelius charges $14.95 a pop for the numbers, which it says it collects from public sources, such as property records and other businesses. The owner of a number has no say in the matter.

Segregating Women to "Save" Them

The Nation
By Jessica Valenti
Last week Mexico City unveiled women-only buses as a way to battle the increasing sexual harassment on public transportation. Some men treat women so badly that the subway system has long had ladies-only cars during rush hour, with police segregating the sexes on the platforms. But that hasn't helped women forced to rely on packed buses, by far the city's most-used form of public transportation -- until this week. Acting on complaints from women's groups, the city rolled out "ladies only" buses, complete with pink signs in the windshields to wave off the men.

A Quarter Of Apple iPhones "Unlocked": Analyst

Published: January 28, 2008
Filed at 8:51 p.m. ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - More than a quarter of people who bought Apple Inc's iPhone are using them on wireless networks other than AT&T's, the exclusive iPhone carrier in the U.S., a "stunning" number that will pressure the company's business model, an analyst said on Monday.
Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi said analysis of sales numbers from Apple and AT&T Inc revealed about 1.45 million phones were "missing in action" at the end of 2007.
About 480,000 of those were believed to be held by AT&T as inventory, leaving another 1 million phones, or 27 percent of the total, that Sacconaghi said were "unlocked" so they could work on non-AT&T networks.

Apple executives said last week the number of unlocked phones was "significant" but declined to give an estimate. Most analysts had estimated the portion of unlocked phones at under 20 percent.

Spokespersons for Apple and AT&T declined to comment.

The higher number is worrying for Apple because the company receives a cut of AT&T's iPhone service fees, revenue that carries a high gross margin and has fueled optimism over its earnings potential.

For example, Sacconaghi said, if Apple hit its sales goal of 10 million iPhones by the end of fiscal 2008 but 30 percent of those don't result in any carrier payments, its revenue and profit would be $500 million and 37 cents per share lower than expected.
If Apple cracks down on unlocked phones it could preserve its high margins but miss its sales target, whereas allowing them could erode profitability and make it tough to sign more carriers to similar revenue-sharing deals.

"Besides the financial implications, we believe the prevalence of unlocked iPhones presents a significant strategic dilemma to Apple," Sacconaghi wrote.

Apple shares closed unchanged on Monday at $130.01. Over the past month the stock has fallen 35 percent on concerns over consumer spending and what some analysts say are a lack of must-have products Apple has lined up this year.

The Blight of Bigotry That Is Still With Us

South Carolina is a disturbing example of how difficult it is for people of good will to dispose of toxic layers of bigotry. Audience members listen to US Democratic presidential candidates debate in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday.
The political mantra this year is "change." But South Carolina, where the Confederate flag still flies on the grounds of the State Capitol, is a disturbing example of how difficult it is for people of good will to dispose of the toxic layers of bigotry that have accumulated over several long centuries.

On Saturday, in a cold, steady rain, voters turned out for the Republican primary. Nearly all of them -- close to 100 percent -- were white. At a dinner here Saturday night, I was reminded ruefully by one of the guests: "It used to be the Democratic Party that was the white man's party in South Carolina. Now it's the GOP. The black people vote next Saturday."

They still honor Benjamin Tillman down here, which is very much like honoring a malignant tumor. A statue of Tillman, who was known as Pitchfork Ben, is on prominent display outside the statehouse.

Tillman served as governor and US senator in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A mortal enemy of black people, he bragged that he and his followers had disenfranchised "as many as we could," and he publicly defended the murder of blacks.

"Grand Theft Auto IV" Confirmed To Release April 29th

From The Amazon Game Room Blog
Genre defining, sure. Amazing new Next-Gen graphics, doubtless. And don’t forget….Yeah, yeah, yeah, just tell me when it will be releasing! Believe me, I’m right there with you on that. And with that said, get ready to put a few dollars aside for your order here because Rockstar Games has heard your cries in the wilderness and has finally settled on an April 29th date for the release of GTA4 Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. That’s right, the GTA franchise will be resurrecting itself this spring. We’re all hoping it will be worth the wait. Our friends over at Rockstar certainly are. According to Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games: "We are so excited to be releasing Grand Theft Auto IV," he continues, "We've pushed ourselves very hard to make something incredible and hope the game sets a new benchmark for interactive entertainment."
Again, doubtless. I’m just excited that it’s finally confirmed and since I don’t see than one or two titles in April to compete with it for my gaming dollars it looks like Niko’s ‘Amer-ee-kan’ dream will be getting some serious play. Now if I could only decide which platform to pony up for.
How about you? Are you on the GTA4 bandwagon and if so on which platform?
Either way the end of April date also gives Rockstar more time to hype the launch with a few more quality trailers. If you haven't already check out all the videos that have been released thus far

Download The Game "Undertow" On Xbox Live While Its FREE!

Download “Undertow” on Xbox LIVE While It’s Free
2:20 PM PST, January 23, 2008

Surprise, surprise Xbox LIVE has connectivity issues. They also have plenty of games to give away as a way to placate the members who preferred to frantically scramble to look up the list of error codes on Xbox.com over the holidays instead of going upstairs to hang out with their families. Today as a “Thanks for playing trying to play,” Silver and Gold Xbox LIVE members can download a free copy of the Xbox LIVE Arcade game, Undertow.

There was hope among members, or at least this member and probably any others who have already plopped down the MS points the game, that we would be given the choice of game downloads, but it looks like we’re SOL. I hear that Undertow isn’t a bad game at all, but if I’m going to fill up the very limited space on my hard drive I would prefer it to be with a game of my own choosing. Enough with the whining though. I’ll be downloading my copy when I get home today just like the rest of you. With the number of users hitting the site tonight I can only imagine what the next freebie will be.

Heath Ledger: 1979-2008

By now the news has spread that the 28 year Australian actor Heath Ledger was found dead in New York City of still-to-be-determined causes. Ledger's resume was extensive for someone his age. At some point in his short career, Ledger began to gravitate more toward independent fare, including Lasse Hallstrom's "Casanova" and Terry Gilliam's "The Brothers Grimm," both released in 2005. His 2006 film "Candy" now seems destined to have an especially haunting quality: In a particularly realistic performance, Ledger played a poet wrestling with a heroin addiction along with his girlfriend, played by Abbie Cornish.

But Ledger's most recent choices were arguably the boldest yet: He costarred in "I'm Not There," in which he played one of the many incarnations of Bob Dylan - as did Cate Blanchett, whose performance in that film earned an Oscar nomination Tuesday for best supporting actress.

And in what may be his final finished performance, Ledger proved that he wouldn't be intimidated by taking on a character as iconic as Jack Nicholson's Joker. Ledger's version of the "Batman" villain, glimpsed in early teaser trailers, made it clear that his Joker would be more depraved and dark. Hope you're in a good place Heath.

This Is the Definitive, Don't- Argue- With- Me- 'Cause- I- Know- What- I'm- Talking-About-And-You-Don't Reason Why The Dallas Cowboys Lost

I am a die-hard Cowboys fan. Having said that, I will tell the world(or the 2 or 3 people who end up reading this post) why the Cowboys lost to the Giants. The Cowboys lost not because of Tony Romo and the stupid vacation with Jessica Simpson and all that bullshit that got so much attention from the media and the pundits. They lost first of all because they became too damn full of themselves after averaging 33 points a game for their first 13 games! I think at some point, they got to thinking that all they had to do was show up at a game and an offensive explosion bigger and badder than Jerry Jones' ego would take place and 33 points would be handed to them in a silver platter with a side of fries. Second of all and as a corollary to the above, they lost because of lack of preparation, discipline and focus evidenced, among many miscues, by dropped balls on key offensive drives on the part of Anthony Fasano, Patrick Crayton and Terrell Owens. Then there were those stupid-ass penalties (I think they had 8 for 60+ yards) which show that lack of discipline they had been getting away with all year the most galling of which, to me, was the 15 yards Dallas was set back on a drive because of an asinine play by an offensive lineman whose name, thankfully, escapes me right now. This lineman, in his immense wisdom, decided to put a very late hit on Giants defensive end Michael Strahan when the play had been long over and Strahan was on the ground! And there is Pro Bowl tackle Flozell Adams who has a nasty penchant for jumping offside and all of a sudden it is not 3rd and short anymore but 3rd and 6. Adams has been doing that all year and continued to do it in the most important game of the season for Dallas. And what can I say about Tony? Lets see..on one drive, he held on to the ball when he should have thrown it away and instead took a sack and a 14 yard loss. On another drive with Dallas behind and needing to score, Romo, unable to find an open man, threw the ball away prematurely and was called for intentional grounding 'cause he was still inside the tackles and was not being pressured by the Giants defense. As a result, Dallas was penalized for 10 yards. The aforementioned Crayton meanwhile, dropped a perfect 3rd down pass on a drive that could have put Dallas in very good position to score. Tight end Fasano who is used primarily for blocking, dropped a right-on-the-money pass a couple of yards from the end zone and Dallas had to settle for a field goal. Center Andre Gurode who was on the disabled list for the last regular game of the season, seemed to have trouble delivering the snap on time all game long. The secondary, especially CB Jacques Reeves, got exploited by Giants QB Eli Manning for some long passes. The list goes on and on and all of these happened while the Giants played with a decimated secondary that could have been and SHOULD have been exploited with the weapons on offense Dallas has.

Roy Williams, Dallas' hard-hitting strong safety, said a few days ago in reference to first year Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips' relaxed style of coaching that he was used to some yelling and screaming and people getting in his face (can you say Bill Parcells?). Well, maybe that's what this team needed. Some yelling and screaming. And some damn discipline! Holding on to the ball would not have been a very bad thing either.

Oh yea. I forgot the obligatory "give the other team credit" thing 'cause I don't wanna sound like a sore loser....ummmm. Whatever.

Behold! The World's Cheapest Car!

India's Ratan Tata Motors was finally able to unveil the much-awaited Tata Nano which can sit 4 people. The Nano, which looks very similar to a Smart -has no radio, no air conditioning, no power steering for the basic model, no passenger-side mirror, and only one windshield wiper. The company has said they expect the car to revolutionize the auto industry, and analysts believe the Nano may force other manufacturers to lower their own pricing. Dealers will sell the car for 100,000 rupees — $2,500 — but customers will pay slightly more than that due to taxes and other charges. The diminutive car will have lower pollution levels than a two-wheeler and will meet all foreign safety and emission laws and environmental criteria.

Its Huckabee and Obama in Iowa!

Mike Huckabee was propelled to the top, not surprisingly, by the Religious Right. His views on gays and abortion among other issues(homosexuality is a sin and a learned behavior and abortion is a crime) are in sync with the sociopolitical agenda of Religious Conservatives.

Senator Obama's Iowa win came as a result of the support he enjoys among young voters who see him as the harbinger of change in Washington DC. To many, Barack Obama represents a much needed departure from the political establishment, the status quo and the time-honored "politics as usual" practiced in D.C.

What do I think? Being a woman, I like to think that our nation has come a long way, baby. And I am not talking about the old cigarette commercials either. I am talking about the possibility that a woman might become our next commander in chief. To me, it is exciting and exhilarating. Having said that however, I do not believe that Hillary Rodham Clinton represents a significant departure from the "good old boys" club that has controlled Washingtonian politics since forever. She is nevertheless, the best hope the Democrats have of regaining control of the White House. The fact that she's been around the block, so to speak, makes her in the eyes of many people, a more viable presidential candidate and by contrast, gives a neophyte like Obama a definite disadvantage. And staying on Barack Obama, the following question also has to be addressed: Is the United States of America with its not so distant past submerged in the painful, shameful past of institutionalized racism prepared to elect a (gasp!) black president?

I would like to read your opinion America. If you are in Tierra del Fuego or Ulan Bator, what the heck! Let me know what you think too.
